This model has a lot of great things going for it. Not only is it a very good model, accurately capturing the Pokemon character, but it is also using a very clever animation principle which is used in its face. The eyes and mouth of Chikoriat are just made from transparent plains the fit to the mesh of the body and then the texture of the eyes and mouth of projected onto these plains. To then get different facial expressions the UV offset is being animated to different positions of the texture. This is a clever skill used any time you have a 2D face.
